Sir Alexander Menzies made a Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1665. The Menzies Tartan is featured in its delicate and understated beauty. The dominant shade in Menzies Tartan   is a strong black that is pierced through with creamy white horizontal squares formed at the intersections of light grey lines that run both horizontally and vertically. The black and white tartan is now known as the mourning tartan, although historically, it was worn by the Menzies clans of Durisdeer and Enouch, who lived in the Scottish Borders.
